Nutro Recalls Selected Puppy Food Due to Possible Plastic Contamination

Small pieces of melted plastic were recently found in the production line of select varieties of NUTRO®  dry dog and cat food products. Three puppy food products reached some PetSmart and Petco stores in AZ, CA, CO, HI, NM, NV, TX and UT.

Clinicians Advised to Halt Use of Propofol from Tainted Lots from Teva Pharmaceuticals

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) have been investigating recent cases of febrile reactions among patients undergoing endoscopy in the United States. This investigation has revealed that all of the case-patients received the anesthetic propofol from 100 ml vials manufactured by Teva Pharmaceuticals.

Health Advisories Issued for Toxic Algae: Harmful to Dogs and Humans

High algae levels have been found in various bodies of water in Oregon. Four dogs in Southern Oregon have died as a result of contact with blue-green algae in Elk Creek near Elkton. Algae advisories can be found on the DHS Harmful Algae Bloom Surveillance (HABS) Program site.

DVMs: Submit Samples of Possible WNV Cases to OSU VDL for Testing

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention and the Oregon Department of Human Services are interested in obtaining serum samples from equine cases that may have an encephalitis-like-illness to test for West Nile virus. Serum samples should be collected and sent to Oregon State University VDL for testing. There is no charge for this testing.
