Lien Law Amendments Sought in 2011 Legislative Session

Most states – Oregon included – have a lien law that allows a veterinarian to place a lien on an animal and retain it until payment is made. In Oregon, the lien attaches at the time services are rendered and payment is due; however, a practice must retain a pet for a minimum of 15 days (30 days if not a pet) before foreclosing on the lien. All the while the practice incurs costs for caring for that animal.

National Veterinary Accreditation Program: Grace Period in Effect

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) has revised its National Veterinary Accreditation Program (NVAP). Veterinarians who want to write Certificates of Veterinary Inspection (health certificates) to certify animals for domestic and international movement will need to comply with these new requirements.
