Rabies
Rabies is an infectious viral disease that affects the nervous system. It is transmitted by a bite or saliva from a rabid animal. Recent cases of rabid bats throughout the state, as well as foxes, are a good reminder to keep your pet, including cats, who are more likely to play with a sick bat, up to date on their rabies vaccinations!

Every year, there are approximately 4.5 million people bitten by dogs, with children between the ages of five and nine the most likely to be bitten. The good news is that dog bites *are* preventable. It’s up to people, not dogs, to stop dog bites.

Bimeda-MTC Animal Health Inc. Recalls Injectable Fluids Due to Sterility Issues
Bimeda Inc., on behalf of the manufacturer, Bimeda-MTC Animal Health Inc. is voluntarily recalling one lot of Calcium Gluconate, one lot of Dextrose 50%, and one lot of Hypertonic Saline, all of which are in the form of injectable fluids, to the user level. These injectable fluids are being recalled as a precautionary measure; because of departures from customary sterility procedures, sterility cannot be entirely assured.

Cargill Recalls Showmaster® S-Series Show Lamb Feed (BW): Incorrect Sodium Molybdate Levels
Cargill’s animal nutrition business today announced a voluntary recall of Showmaster® S-Series Show Lamb Feed (BW) because it contained incorrect sodium molybdate levels. To date, there are 170, 50-pound bags of feed still out in the market. Cargill continues to take appropriate steps to pursue retrieval on those bags.
Oregon State Fair: Volunteers Needed for OVMA Booth
Each summer at the Oregon State Fair, we are reminded that fairgoers love their animals and love the opportunity to talk to veterinarians, technicians and assistants about caring for their animals. Fleas: Treatment & Prevention
If your dog or cat is itching and scratching, fleas are a likely culprit. Flea season usually begins in spring and lasts through the summer, but fleas can survive year round in western Oregon's moderate climate. Fleas that live on your pet can easily spread to your house or yard and vice versa, so it's important to treat both your pet and your pet's environment.
Natura Pet Recalls EVO, Innova, California Natural, Karma and HealthWise Dry Pet Foods & Treats Due to Salmonella
Natura Pet Products has recalled dry pet food (EVO, Innova, California Natural and HealthWise) because it has the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella. This recall was expanded today to include Natura's dry dog, cat and ferret food products with expiration dates through March 24, 2014.
