Cage Project Sponsored by OAHF Aids Sea Lions on Oregon Coast
A team of scientists, veterinarians and volunteers have deployed a custom-built “capture cage” in Newport to temporarily sequester sea lions that have become entangled with rope, fishing line and other materials so they can be untangled. The Oregon Animal Health Foundation, the charitable arm of the Oregon Veterinary Medical Association, provided a $5,000 grant for the project.

Equine Dentistry Changes in Oklahoma, Other Legislative Updates
In what could establish a major precedent nationwide, Gov. Brad Henry of Oklahoma signed a bill that removed the practice of equine dentistry from a veterinary procedure to an animal husbandry act. Under the bill, the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food and Forestry would enforce provisions of the new law.

Purina Mills, LLC, is voluntarily recalling two specific lots of 50-pound bags of Strategy® Professional Formula GX horse feed and one lot of Layena® SunFresh® Recipe Pellet poultry feed. The recall is being implemented due to the discovery of metal fragments in a limited number of bags from one of the Strategy® product lots.
Response Products Recalls Cetyl M for Dogs: Possible Salmonella Contamination
Response Products, Broken Bow, NE is voluntarily recalling Cetyl M for Dogs, lot numbers 1210903 and 0128010, due to a possible Salmonella contamination from the hydrolyzed vegetable protein component provided by Basic Foods of Las Vegas, NV. Tests conducted by Basic Foods to detect Salmonella produced negative results; however, Response Products has determined to recall the above-referenced lots.
Safe Use of Flea and Tick Spot-On Products
After compiling, reviewing and analyzing much of the data provided to the EPA, Pet Poison Helpline experts concurred with EPA’s assessment that when used correctly, the incidence of severe and fatal effects resulting from the application of flea and tick products is extremely low as compared to the number of applications that pet owners apply each year.
