Oregon State Fair: Volunteers Needed for OVMA Booth

Each summer at the Oregon State Fair, we are reminded that fairgoers love their animals and love the opportunity to talk to veterinarians, technicians and assistants about caring for their animals.

Members of the veterinary profession are needed to make this another successful year of public outreach at the Fair. We encourage veterinarians, technicians, assistants, veterinary team members and OSU CVM students to join us!

Booth Theme

This year, the OVMA booth will focus on the human animal bond and the special relationship we have with animals of all species.

Volunteer Duties & Guidelines

You will receive free admission to the Fair, a refreshment, our sincere thanks, and the chance to win an Amazon.com gift card!

Be one of the first 25 volunteers to sign up for a shift and you will also receive one free admission ticket for a guest!

  • Members of the veterinary profession and OSU CVM students/faculty are encouraged to volunteer. We regret that we cannot accept volunteer requests from the general public.
  • Volunteers for the OVMA booth talk with fairgoers and answer general questions about animal care and the exhibit. In addition, volunteers are asked to keep the booth organized, materials replenished, etc.
  • As a volunteer, you are the face of the OVMA and also represent the profession to the public. As such, you are asked to wear semi-casual or professional working attire.
  • We need ONE volunteer for each 2 hour shift. Volunteers who wish to pair up are asked to sign up for TWO 2 hour shifts.
  • Non-certified practice team members and CVM students are strongly encouraged to pair up with a DVM or CVT; in these cases, two people for one shift is OK.
  • We apologize, but we cannot provide free fair admission to family members or guests of volunteers (beyond the first 25 volunteers who sign up--see above).

Plan a Day at the Fair for Your Practice Team

Plan a Day at the Fair for your practice team! In past years, we've had practices send several members of their team as a group to volunteer in the OVMA booth. Team members pair up to work the booth for awhile, then enjoy the sights and sounds of the Fair with their coworkers. It's a great team-building exercise that also allows you the opportunity to share your team's veterinary knowledge with the public. Contact Raina directly to set up a Day at the Fair for your practice team.

Make the Most of Your Free Fair Admission

Schedule your shift for the day when your favorite performer is in concert. Check out special events or exhibits you've had your eye on. Make a day of it!

Service Animal Visits

Need your puppy fix? Canine Companions for Independence puppies will be in the house! Dates and times TBA. Other service animal visits are in the works as well. Check back for dates.

How to Sign Up

Please send us an e-mail with your name, clinic name and address, phone number, and date and time of the shift you'd like to volunteer for, or call the OVMA office at (800) 235-3502.
