EPA Increases Scrutiny of Flea and Tick Control Products for Pets

Due to a recent sharp increase in the number of incidents being reported from the use of spot-on pesticide products for flea and tick control for pets, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is intensifying its evaluation of whether further restrictions on the use of these products are necessary to better protect pets.

Nutro Recalls Selected Puppy Food Due to Possible Plastic Contamination

Small pieces of melted plastic were recently found in the production line of select varieties of NUTRO®  dry dog and cat food products. Three puppy food products reached some PetSmart and Petco stores in AZ, CA, CO, HI, NM, NV, TX and UT.

Health Advisories Issued for Toxic Algae: Harmful to Dogs and Humans

High algae levels have been found in various bodies of water in Oregon. Four dogs in Southern Oregon have died as a result of contact with blue-green algae in Elk Creek near Elkton. Algae advisories can be found on the DHS Harmful Algae Bloom Surveillance (HABS) Program site.
