OMSI After Dark: Science Can Kill You

6 pm - 10 pm

Danger, danger—science is everywhere! From poisonous plants to explosive inventions, you'll never look at your surroundings the same way again.

OVMA member Dr. Heidi Houchen of VCA Northwest Veterinary Specialists will give a presentation titled "Fido and the Ficus Fight Back: How Your Pets and Plants Can Kill You" at 7 pm in the planetarium.

Dr. Heidi Houchen graduated with a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Washington State University Veterinary School in 1992 and the following year completed an internship in emergency and critical care medicine at the Animal Emergency Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Dr. Houchen has worked in the ER/ICU departments of veterinary hospitals in Kansas, Wisconsin, Washington, and Oregon prior to becoming a staff veterinarian at VCA-Northwest Veterinary Specialists in 2006. She writes and lectures extensively, both locally and regionally, about her special interests of toxicology, hematology and trauma/CPR. Dr. Houchen is the VCA NWVS Intern Director as well as the director of the Northwest Veterinary Specialists Critical Care Blood Bank.

Shoot off water rockets, concoct chemical creations, and explore the wonders of OMSI with no kids in sight! Enjoy a glass of wine while learning about robots, tornados, or fossils. Talk to a brewer about the science behind beer, or sample products from local artisans. All that and more with OMSI After Dark, a night at the museum for the 21-and-over crowd filled with food, drink, and science fun!
