Novartis Animal Health Cautions Owners to Check Clomicalm Tablets Before Dispensing Due to Manufacturing Issues

In the wake of the indefinite shutdown of its Lincoln, Nebraska plant due to manufacturing issues, Novartis is now warning veterinarians that it may be possible that a wrong tablet might be found in some 30-count bottles of Clomicalm® (clomipramine hydrochloride) tablets. Owners and veterinarians are encouraged to check the tablet size, shape and color before dipensing.

The plant shutdown has stopped production of Clomicalm, Interceptor Flavor Tabs, Sentinel Flavor Tabs, Program Tablets and Suspension, and Milbemite. Veterinarians have been unable to order these medications since early January. If you have any questions about this issue, you are advised to contact your veterinarian, or, if a veterinarian, your Novartis representative.

Update (2.3.12): Novartis has resumed distribution of veterinary products manufactured at this plant.

While Novartis is not issuing a recall of Clomicalm at this time, they have released the lots numbers for the potentially affected bottles:
